Project Overview: The Art of Terrazzo Logo Integration
This case study highlights our work for a prominent commercial sports arena that required a sponsor logo change in the main entrance. The project involved removing an old metal logo embedded in the terrazzo floor and replacing it with a new sponsor's logo, all within a tight timeframe before the start of the upcoming sports season.
Navigating Terrazzo Challenges
The arena's main entrance features a terrazzo floor that had an intricate sponsor’s metal logo embedded within it. With the arena’s change of sponsors, the old logo had to be removed, and a new logo needed to be installed in its place. The challenge was twofold:•Preserving the surrounding terrazzo: The old logo was made of metal, and removing it without damaging the surrounding terrazzo surface required precision and care.•Time constraints: The arena needed the restoration completed before the start of the next season, so our team had to work within a tight window. Additionally, precise measurements were required to correctly place the new logo’s metal petals.
The Terrazzo Logo Change Journey
To meet the challenges and restore the terrazzo floor to its former beauty, we employed the following restoration process:1.Initial Preparation:We began by carefully scoring the surrounding terrazzo with a diamond saw to create a clean boundary, ensuring that the existing terrazzo was not damaged during the removal of the old logo.2.Logo Removal:Using specialized chipping hammers, we gently removed the metal sponsor’s logo embedded in the terrazzo. Due to the wear and tear on the old terrazzo, we needed to grind down the underlying concrete surface to ensure the proper thickness for the new terrazzo, which would be approximately 3/8” thick.3.Metal Pedal Placement:The new logo design required precise placement of metal petals. Our team carefully measured and created a custom guide to ensure that the petals were placed in the exact correct location to form the new logo, maintaining alignment and accuracy.4.Terrazzo Installation:Once the metal petals were properly set, we poured black terrazzo with a few white specks to match the surrounding floor. We then ground and polished the terrazzo to a high shine, matching the original terrazzo floor’s finish seamlessly.
